Raising the Standards

When the double-cutaway SG was unveiled as the (temporary) replacement for the original single-cutaway Les Paul in 1961 it quickly proved itself far more than just a stand-in. An overnight success, this innovative guitar quickly became a favorite with rock, blues, and jazz players and more. The flagship of the SG range, the SG Standard 2017 T represents a superb blend of historic looks and tone and contemporary versatility and playability. Its iconic asymmetrical double-horned body styling and smaller 'teardrop' pickguard hark back to the originals of the early 60s, and the Classic 57 and 57 + humbuckers likewise take you straight back to those hallowed PAF tones. When uncompromising performance matters, locking Grover kidney-button tuners, a slim taper neck, rosewood fingerboard with rolled binding, and Gibson's finest modern aluminum Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece with elegant chrome plating provide a sylish and modern SG playing experience.

Had this guitar for a year now and have formed a really good opinion of it. I really like the 57s (I like the slightly lower output vis a vis the 490/498), I can get every tone I want into a tube amp, with lots of headroom. Like the small pickguard better than the big one and the one I got has a beautiful grain under the transparent heritage cherry finish (two piece body, I got lucky). Slim taper neck is really comfortable. But, most of all, the locking tuners are fantastic, they make string changes such a pleasure, this is a real upgrade on the 2016 IMHO. Tuning is super stable if you keep the nut lubricated. Only reason that I have marked down quality half a point is that the first one I got had a faulty volume pot. L&M North Van were great and swapped it out the same day with a really nice one with no problems at all. I have had absolutely no quality problems with my one. With any Gibson, try before you buy, but quality seems to be going up since 2015.

Before picking this guy up I'd been playing on a Ibanez grg170dx for 6 years, so this was quite the upgrade. I picked up one of these used at L&M Mississauga for $899 which was an absolute steal. I've been playing it for just over a month now and I don't regret my descision to buy in the slightest. The pickups sound so thick and this guitar can do a great job of replicating Santana, AC/DC tones... etc. And palm muting/chugging with distortion is so powerful on this guitar. The one bad thing i did notice was that after just a few weeks of playing the neck has started to show small scratches and markings, which is a bit annoying. I'm going to invest in some guitar care supplies to try and avoid it from getting worse. Overall, I'd give this guitar a 4.5/5

I received this guitar from my wife as a Christmas present and I have to say it is the most amazing sounding fast playing guitar I've ever played in my life, the 57 classic pickups have such an amazing sound and old school rock, that roll binding on the neck is so slick so enjoyable to play can't say enough good things about this guitar the grover locking tuners stays in tune really well.

I love this guitar. The playability and sound that comes from the 57s in it is excellent. I have a Les Paul with 57s and these sound more clear to me, yet still warm. Must be that maple cap. Do not hesitate on this piece. I got mine on sale for $1299 which is an amazing price for the value you get. Locking tuners, 57 classics, beautiful rolled white binding, excellent finish and craftmanship. Gibson gets an A+ with this one. The only thing I had to do is a setup, which all new guitars need, from factory the strings were too high and the neck relief was off. Go get one before they are all gone!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
